My name is Hana. Growing up I was not athletic by any means. Sure, I loved to go on walks, swim and...I think that's it. I was not good at sports...I mean even bike riding scared me. I was always more into artistic activities like songwriting, singing, drawing, painting and playing my ukulele.

When I was 12 I began to really compare myself with other girls who made fun of how I looked. After school, they would participate in sports, while I enjoyed my grandma's tortillas with butter, yum! (no regrets)

Around that time, my anxiety also became more prevalent. It would really affect my sleep so when the sun would set I felt myself panicking because I knew I would begin forcing myself to sleep and thus trigger my anxiety. 

I lived with my grandma who passed away from cancer. She was an amazing woman. I was very curious as to the different remedies and diets she would try and decided for myself that the best diet for my health was to be a vegetarian at the age of 14. I continued researching nutrition, but was a vegetarian for about 5 years. 

I knew I needed to workout but I did not want to go to the gym because I feared everyone would just look at me. So one day I looked on Youtube for workouts and discovered Pilates, I fell in love with it. What I loved most was that finally my anxiety was under control and I could actually sleep better.

From there on out, I was consistent with my workouts because movement became my medicine. Ten years later, it still is. Exercise has not only provided me relief from emotional pain but it has also shown me what my body is capable of. Instead of criticizing my body I learned to thank it for what it does for me. My body is capable of so much and so is yours. I continue to train my body not for anyone else but for myself. I love to prove to myself that I can be stronger, more balanced and more energetic than the person I was yesterday. 

All of our bodies are different and beautiful. We all have varying goals, but at the end of the day we all want to find relief from stress, feel strong, capable and confident. I was able to find that through consistent exercise and eating the right foods. My goal is to help other women enjoy those same benefits.
